My first cake order
A very good friend of mine asked me to make some cakes for her daughter's birthday. I was very excited that she asked me to do this for her! She ordered a carrot cake, cherry clafoutis and a cheese cake. And I made some madeleines (in the little brown bag) as a gift. I understood it all tasted delicious, so my first cake order turned out very well. Thank you!

Inkkit has gift wrap, ribbon, stickers, tape, tags, glitter, sequins, baker's twine, tape, and basically everything else you need to wrap your gifts or to send a beautiful (christmas) card. I really like the gold tip twig pencils!!

Villa Augustus
Villa Augustus is one of my favorite spots in Dordrecht.
Yesterday - after some shopping at Loods 5 - I had lunch here with my mother. Villa Augustus is a restaurant and a hotel. Everything is baked by themselves and herbs and vegetables grow in the huge garden (and green house). Near the entrance of the restaurant is the
Market-Café. You can buy vegetables and fruit of the season, home-made jam, olive oil, vinegar, etc. And there's a bakery where they serve home-baked bread, cakes and biscuits! In the curio shop you can buy gifts and souvenirs. I couldn't resist these antique plates.
The hotel is located in the former water tower of Dordrecht.
I really want to sleep here too one day!

Speculaas cake
In Holland it's almost time for Sinterklaas.
A typical Dutch happening.
This weekend we already celebrated Sinterklaas with a whole group of friends. I baked a speculaas cake with spicy mini cookies (kruidnootjes in Dutch).
It's very easy to make and it's really delicious. Your whole house will smell amazing!
Also perfect for a lazy Sunday like today. Stay inside on the couch with a blanket, it's dark early, so time for a hot cup of tea or coffee with a treat upon.

Do try and let me know what you think!
Ingredients
200g butter at room temperature
150g light brown sugar
50 g sugar
1 sachet vanilla sugar
4 eggs
200g self-raising flour
4 teaspoons speculaas herbs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
80 grams kruidnoten
1 pinch of salt
cake tin
butter for greasing
150g light brown sugar
50 g sugar
1 sachet vanilla sugar
4 eggs
200g self-raising flour
4 teaspoons speculaas herbs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
80 grams kruidnoten
1 pinch of salt
cake tin
butter for greasing
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees and grease a cake tin with a little butter. Beat the butter (in pieces) along with the brown sugar, sugar, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt about 15 minutes with the mixer until fluffy cream.
Beat in the eggs, one at time
Add the flour and the cinnamon and speculaas herbs to the butter mixture. Mix together well until a smooth batter.
Add the kruidnoten and stir with a spatula gently into the batter.
Pour the batter into the greased cake tin and bake the gingerbread cake in about 60 minutes in the preheated oven.
Let the cake cool on a rack and cut the cake into slices.
Bon appetit!
